Processing Overview:
To enhance the aroma of the rice, QFT's Mills uses the method of sun drying of paddy, which after being cleaned is processed by the plant equipped with most sophisticated controls. The paddy then goes through huskers, paddy separators, polishers, graders, de-stoners and color sorter before being hygienically packed in 1 to 200 Kg cotton, hessian or plastic bags as per requirements of the customers. There are series of steps involved from birth of rice to the finish packed product. Lets dig in...

Site Selection:
What could have been a better site than the worlds finest paddy-growing valley of the Narang, where the snow-fed rivers of HImalayas nurture the crop. This unique combination of soil & water gives rice an irresistible aroma.

Warehousing:
To enhance the aroma and taste of the rice, it is seasoned for 10-11 months in a special dedicated warehouses. It became QFT's policy to sale only seasoned rice to the consumer market. This makes Warehousing a very important step in the whole production process of the company. These stocks are kept in the most hygienic conditions and remain under constant supervision Fumigation:The mill has 9 fumigation chambers within the mill's premises, where the rice is fumigated before processing and finally after packing.Fumigation is carried out by potential methyl bromide replacements, ethyl formate and carbonyl sulphide.

The most distinguishing aspect of QFT's fumigation is the use the "Precision Fumigation (PF)" tools and techniques. By using PF an enhanced level of professionalism is accomplished.PF takes into account various inter-related fumigation factors, such as target pest and temperature, and creates a customized fumigation blue print for each Job. Miss Mehreen (company's Head of Quality Management Division) said, proper fumigant introduction, circulation, aeration and worker safety also are emphasized under this protocol.

Cleaning:
Milling starts with a cleaning of rice. This is a multi-step process where foreign material like straws, mud balls, threads, stones, paddy and metal particles are removed from the rice.High performace pre-cleaners and classifiers are used to acheive great accuracy in feeding purified rice to the latter process. This process is applicable to both white and brown rice. Apart from the cleaning process itself it is ensured that none of such impurities are added into rice during subsequent processes.
All the machines, conveyers, bins and hoppers are equipped with generously sized aspiration system; keeping the entire building dust-free.The company is ISO 9001 certified and is in the implementation stage of HACCP (Hazzard Analysis of Critical Control Points) system hence providing hygienic processing and suitable sanitation facilities.

Whitening/Polishing:
To ensure the efficient removal of bran without the risk of grain breaking and cracks in the grains, vertical abrasive rice whitening machine is used in combination with two vertical friction whitening machines. The 3 in 1 combination is highly efficient, energy saving, rice whitening mechanism. Furthermore, rice is allowed to pass through mist polishers which impart an extremely clean and glossy white appearance to the kernels, a distinct advantage over traditional milling methods.Consequently, each and every rice grain may receive an even and intact bran-removing process for high productivity, less broken rice and high quality of rice.

Grading:
A very optimized method is applied for both thickness and length grading.
Through this process broken and shriveled rice is separated from head rice to a very high percentage of accuracy. The grader is designed for critical length sizing and the removal of over- sized or under-sized grains in one pass through the machine. The uniform grain length renders a nice appearance to the finished product and adds to the presentation (before and after cooking).

Color Sorting:
The final step in the rice processing is color sorting. The goal is to separate discolored grains from the good ones by using
photo-cells signals on which the air ejector removes the inferior grains. The machine also eliminates other foreign materials such as metals, metal dust, stones and colored glass.make use of the “principle of determining water molecules by infrared scanning in segregating glass, plastic, stones and other impurities found in rice.It utilizes magnetic field principle to discard tiny metal particles and iron powder when they pass through the strong magnetic device built in the slide or chute.

Packing:
In our units a great stress is given to cleaniness and hygiene. Special care is therefore taken in packaging and strong of the finished product. Packing is done with utmost care to retain the initial aroma and freshness of product, maintain hygiene and at the same time have it look attractive.
